Review: Jungle Trouble is the first game I ever played on a speccy, and it's still one of my favorites. It's certainly not a deep and challenging game that will keep you going for months like Castle Master or the Dizzy series. Instead, it's an increadibly simple game which will keep you hooked until you complete it several times on the trot, and even then it'll keep you coming back.
Using only a single screen and matchstick figure graphics, you have to learn to time your key presses perfectly. As muscle memory takes over, you'll find yourself doing it with your eyes closed. Instructions: The object it to work your way to the top left of the screen.
On the first level, you have to jump along the stepping stones. Go all the way to the right, then run at the lake. Just before the edge, release left and press jump. Release jump as soon as you're in the air, and press it again just before you hit the next stone. Press jump too early or too late and you're in the water running away from the crock.
On the second level you need an axe. The axe is collected from the start. Run all the way to the right and an axe will appear at the bottom. As you chop away at the trees the axe will wear down until eventually you'll need to get a new one. The axe is lost if you fall in the water.
Bizzarely, monkeys will try to steal your axe and can be killed by pressing towards them when they try and steal it. Again this is all about timimg.
If a monkey goes after your axe and you haven't got one, it'll be so dissapointed that it'll kill you, so if you loose your axe, get off that level!
You'll have to work out the top level for yourself! Hints and Tips: This game's all about timing and practice. The only advice I can give is this:
Never be holding down more than one key at a time, and wait until the monkey's arm is moving up and down before you try to kill it.
